Executive Staff
Jon Fontas - Executive Director
Jon is an original creator of School Goals and is co-founder of The Hockey Academy, Inc., where he has served as the Company's Vice President since its inception in 1993. Jon's credentials include: post graduate year at The Choate School (1974); Captain, University of New Hampshire Hockey Team (1978); currently ranks 9th UNH All-Time Scoring; ECAC All-New England Team (1978); IHL North American Rookie of the Year (1979); Pro-Contract NHL Minnesota North Stars (1978-1981); starred in Finland's Elite League (1981-1985); St. Anselm's College Assistant Coach (1991-1992); member of the UNH Hall of Fame (1997) and Lexington High School Hall of Fame (2000).
Jay Fee - Sports Counsel
Jay is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and received his law degree from Suffolk University with honors in 1986. Following five years of practice as a corporate attorney, Jay began his concentration in sports law in 1991 at a downtown Boston law firm. He later joined the Boston sports agency, Woolf Associates, where he served as a Vice President and Director of the Woolf Associates'Hockey Division for six years.
Jay founded Blue Sky Sports & Entertainment in Boston where he serves as President. Since taking on his first client, Boston Bruin star and Hockey Hall of Famer Cam Neely, four years ago, Jay has represented several NHL players. He has also concluded many endorsement and sponsorship agreements for many professional athletes in hockey, baseball and professional golf. Jay enjoys an excellent reputation for professionalism throughout the sports industry and often speaks on sports law issues at the invitation of media outlets and law schools. Jay brings his years of experience as a practicing attorney, expertise in sports and knowledge of the amateur athletics and recruiting to the staff of School Goals.
Derek Phinney - Director of Operations
Derek enters his first year as Director of Operations with School Goals. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he earned a degree in Sports Management in 1997. During his undergraduate work, he interned with the Portland Pirates and the American Hockey League. Following graduation, he was hired as the media relations? intern for the Boston Bruins. In 1999, Derek began his professional career in hockey when he was hired by Global Sports Advisors, a full service player agent firm, as Manager of Hockey Operations. Currently, Derek is an associate for Blue Sky Sports and Entertainment in their hockey division.
The Scarborough, Maine native has handled contract negotiations for free agents coming out of college and the junior ranks. He has a great reputation with teams from various leagues and has successfully negotiated deals for several clients during the past six years. Derek has accumulated over eight years of experience within the hockey world. He is well respected throughout the NCAA, Prep School and Junior hockey levels and has served as a family advisor for several families.
Advisory Staff
Charlie Corey
Charlie is a graduate of the Hotchkiss School (1971), Bowdoin College (1975) where he played four years of varsity hockey, and the University of Maine (1984) where he received his Masters in Education. Charlie taught history and coached hockey and lacrosse at Hotchkiss School (1975-1978). He was Head Hockey Coach at Lawrence Academy for 21 years (1979-1989, 1992-2004) and Head Hockey Coach at Colby College for three years (1989-1992). Highlights of his coaching career at Lawrence Academy include: 5 Keller Division Championships, 8 New England Tournaments, 4 members of the US Olympic team, 10 played in NHL, and 22 college captains. His career hockey coaching record is 389-201-28.
Paul LaBarre
Paul (Major, USAF-Retired) is currently the Director of Alumni Relations at Daniel Webster College, Nashua, NH. While in the Air Force, he obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Social Science from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science from Chapman College (CA), and a Master of Arts Degree from Pepperdine University (CA). Since his retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1987, Paul has held several positions at Daniel Webster College. He has been Assistant Director of Admissions (5 years), Director of Academic Support Services (4 years), and Director of Enrollment Services --- over seeing both admissions and financial assistance offices and staffs (5 years). He is currently the Director of Alumni Relations and works with former students in a wide variety of ways. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member and taught psychology, was an assistant baseball coach, and head hockey coach. In addition, he has been the Director of Aviation Career Education (ACE) Camps for the College and over a thousand students have benefited from this unique and well organized nationally acclaimed program.
Mark Awdycki
Mark Awdycki joins School Goals with experience both in the world of sports and education. His most recent experience in the sports world was as the media relations manager for the Boston Bruins, a position he held from 1999-2003. Upon leaving the Bruins in 2003, Awdycki earned his M.Ed. in School Counseling from Salem State College and worked as a school counselor at Arlington (Mass.) High School last year, where he also served as assistant varsity baseball coach. Currently he serves as a school counselor at Hingham(Mass.) High School, where he handles a caseload of over 200 students. Awdycki is a 1997 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a B.S. in Sport Management.
